Sending my story to Royal Academy of Bards
I just sent off the first part of
Academy's Finest to the Royal Academy of Bards. I'll post a link once it's up, but it's a free site for Uberfic or Xena fic. Not sure my story fits either, but I figure it'd be fun to post a novella up there and see what kind of interest it gets. The synopsis for the story is :
Synopsis:
Dray, a top cadet at the Terran Pilot's Academy, has finally managed to capture the attention of Jordan, the only other cadet who can match Dray's pilot skills. But Dray has little time to explore her growing attraction to Jordan before their academic world is thrust into the middle of the smoldering Vtaryn war. The two young women must give the best of themselves to the Academy and to each other to protect what is most dear to them.
Oo look - larger fonts! heh. And now, back to smaller fonts. Anyway, it's an jolly romp through SF land. So far I've created a burnt orange alien called a Tarquin who is F-M transgender in nature. Actually all his race is, if they are males. And I've got a human/marine "biracial" dude with webbed fingers. It may just be dangerous for me to tromp through SF land. ;-)

So alas, not much writing going on the last few days. I had a brief spirt last week, and now it's dry again. This is not writer's block by any means. It's too-dang-lazy-to-write block. See, I have maybe an hour or so a day, max. to write. So I can write in that time, or I can be lazy and read or watch the olympics etc.
Guess what choice I made this time? ;-)
Meanwhile
DeadJade is continuing. That's a lot of fun. It'll never amount to anything, but it's fun.

I have two mini projects underway right now.:
1 -
Dead Jade - a blog for one of my characters - Jade Murphy - a 300+ year old vampire trying to make ends meet in Boston.
2 - Academy's Finest - an experiment in organic writing. That's the fancy name for not plotting a dang thing out :D. It's fun, seat o the pants writing. An SF romp through an interstellar pilot training school, where two young women learn to fly and love, not necessarily in that order. This will go up on the
Royal Academy of Bards as a freebee novella most likely.
So that's my fun for right now. I'm slowly plotting out
Damek Reunited
And like my buddy Joel - I have to consider if I want to consolidate this blog with my day to day idle chatter blog -
sbarret livejournal.
decisions decisions.

I just made it official at
Forward Motion. This is my novel for the 2year novel class. My interest in the book is seriously waning. I've decided to take a break from it entirely for a month and see if I can kickstart a separate book.
I have multiple projects in mind, in no particular order:
- Jackson's Choice - light-hearted story about a girl and her grunge-vamp girlfriend - this has possibilities as a serial fiction going up at the Royal Academy of Bards site.
- Bloody Sunday - a dark fiction/romance about Cait - a northern Irish IRA type and her problems when her cell kidnaps the attractive daughter of the English Prime Minister.
- Sequel to Damek Keep - unnamed as yet, but it is already 80% outlined. Taryn and Sarai are reunited with Taryn's family and battle dark forces to liberate Damek.
- Unnamed Africa - a futuristic tale about a woman who re-unites Africa three generations after the AIDs epidemic has decimated the world population. The premise is that, as the first continent to suffer extreme levels of AIDS-related deaths, Africa becomes the first to pull out of the mini-dark ages this modern plague brings about. The African population now consists of only those people who are genetically immune to AIDs.
- Reunion - fluffy romance about a woman who meets up with one of the "popular" girls from highschool, and they kickstart a tempestuous love affair.
Anyway, anybody see an idea that sticks out? ;-)

I've done nothing this week besides a very short poem for musemuggers over at live journal. I also started a livejournal blog
sbarret. it's for fun chitchat stuff. I like the setup. So far I'll keep my writing news here (urf. not that there is writing news really this week).
I did give my short story -
jackson's choice to be included in musemuggers first anthology. It was an open invitation (i.e. no screening) so doesn't count as publishing or anything. I'll have the same story on my website soon. I figure it was a good bit of free advertising. I'll probably expand the story and add it to other free fiction sites to attract attention to my name (in the hope that I WILL get one of my books published someday ;-)
That's it for the haps right now.
Romulus is still stagnating. Just losing interest really.

Wrote a short story over the weekend.
It was triggered by musemuggers_2 over at livejournal. Anyway, the characters are kinda cute (I think) so I may expand this into a couple of follow-on stories when I get the chance. It was a nice exercise in silly writing.
Romulus has stagnated again. I'm considering just punting the novel and working on something else. I hate to give up on 6+months of background work though... hmm...

Announcing: My new Author Website!
Yes, it's finally ready. Thanks to Liz for creating it for me. Go check it out:
Sandra Barret's Website
Such fun... :D Let me know what you think, either here or via the contact email on the website. I'm still working on cleaning up the excerpts etc.

That was slow going! I'll likely combine the outlines for chapters 3 and 4 so the story starts moving at a better clip. I also still need a convincing reason why Ranae will attempt the ritual that raises Romulus.
On the good news front, my chapters are coming out at the right size etc. So at least that much of my outline is on target. I have nearly 9K written so far on this book. I estimated it would be around 100k so that's almost 1/10th of the way there! *cough*. ;-)

Added another 600 words to Romulus. inch inch inch. Worked on the short story The Gift Basket for the website. Fun was had. I've manage to write 500+ words a day for 3 out of 4 of the last days, so that's not bad (for me...).

I got nothing written on Tuesday, due to a bad cold/cough. Bluck. Still have a sore throat. I did manage about 500 new words on Romulus yesterday and I hope to finish this chapter (chapter 2) before the weekend. We'll see, eh?
I'm also cleaning up a short story, set in the same world as Damek Keep for my new author website. Once I have that cleaned up and posted, I'll reveal the site for all to see. ;-) I've been told it's a dark motif, but hey - I like black and gray.
That's about it for the haps. Oh, and I've just started reading the Sandman graphic novels - they're cool.
